What are the different styles of salsa? Which one should I learn?

Salsa is an immensely popular dance world over, and has evolved into various styles from place to place. Some of the most popular styles are:

  • Salsa On2, or Mambo (New York or Puerto Rican style)

  • Cuban style

  • Salsa On1 (LA style)

  • Colombian style

When speaking about dance styles it is important to keep in mind that one is not better than another, they are simply different and everyone chooses their style according to a range of factors likes preference, place where you live, places you like to go to dance etc. The most important thing is to have fun when you dance salsa.

So which style do you teach? What other dance forms are on offer?

Salsa On1 or the LA style is the most commonly danced style in India & many other parts of the world. Hence, we teach the On1 style. However, we also encourage the students to explore the other styles of salsa once they are comfortable with the On1 style.

Apart from Salsa, we also conduct shorter duration classes in dance forms like Bachata, Merengue, Jive, Rueda de Casino, Pachanga etc.

We recommend that the students complete at least Salsa Level 1 before they go for any of the above styles. Although that is not a mandate, except for in the case of Rueda de Casino.

Does it matter if I've never danced before?

No. Absolutely not. If you've an ounce of rhythm in your body, we can teach you what to do with it!

Do I need a partner to join the class?

Joining with a partner is NOT compulsory, although recommended. Furor will ensure that the gender ratio in each batch proportionate. We will constantly rotate partners throughout the entire class, such that everyone will dance with everyone else.

I wanted to join but I missed the starting date of a level. What do I do?

We have a new batch starting every month. So you won't have to wait too long in case you missed the start of a level. At times, if only one class of a level is over, we can help you cover up the content of that session so that you can join in from the next one itself.

I am already learning Or have completed learning the level 1 course some place else. Can I join your level 2?

You must be declared eligible to join Level 2, 3 or 4 by our instructor. If you have learned Salsa with another institute or instructor, then you must schedule an appointment with one of our instructors for an evaluation. The instructor will dance with you for a few minutes and suggest what level is best suited for you.

How soon can I hit the dance floor?

We always encourage our students to go to the dance floor after their 3rd session of partnerwork. The earlier one starts, the sooner one learns to better understand and grasp leading & following techniques, and also to build confidence. The key is to relax, have fun, and enjoy the music and dance! We organize fabulous salsa socials in order to promote the dance & salsa lifestyle in particular; more so because we ourselves are passionately passionate about it.

I have my own group and would like you to organize lessons exclusively for us. Can you do it?

We definitely can. Please get in touch with us so that we can understand your requirements & customize a class for your group.

How long will it take me to start dancing well?

This depends on your ability, how many classes a week you go to, and how much practice you do between times. Also you'll never know it all (we're very much still learning ourselves!!). To get to a reasonable standard of freestyle leading and following takes on average, 6-12 months if you attend classes every week. You can shorten this dramatically by attending more classes, dancing regularly & taking our private coaching.

I have limited time on hand and want to learn faster. What should I do?

You can opt for our private coaching. Private coaching makes your dancing goals an exciting reality. Improve your technique, correct bad habits, become a better dancer, you will achieve your goals faster with with one-on-one coaching. One Private coaching session gives you the concentrated learning experience equal to about four or five group lessons and is available for all age-ranges and skill levels. Private coaching may be taken individually or shared by two people with no additional charge. Invite a friend or significant other & improve your dancing together. The cost/hr for private coaching is Rs.2500/-, + Rs.250/- per student after the first two.

I am getting married soon OR someone I know is getting married. Can you teach us a choreographed routine for our function?

Absolutely! We can help make your special event even more memorable. An expert choreographer from Furor Entertainment will teach you a choreography that you can perform at any event. Your wedding will be the talk of town. Impress your family & friends with your dance moves. The Furor Entertainment choreographers will make sure of that.

Can you perform at our event?

Absolutely!! Please let us know what you have going on and we will help you with the entertainment!!!

Do you organize student showcase shows?

Furor's professional & student teams regularly perform and compete at the international Salsa congresses held across the globe every year.

Our teams have won awards and acclaim for their performances.  We are definitely looking at building a team of potential students and provide them with training & opportunity to perform/compete at these congresses.

What is a Salsa Congress? How can I attend one?

A salsa congress is mainly a meeting of professional and amateur salsa dancers to enjoy salsa. Salsa congresses also have a set of common elements: Shows, workshops, social parties, live bands, booths, master classes or competitions. Soon after the term Salsa congress emerged for the first time in 1997, there sprung up Salsa festivals, Salsa summits, and in recent years - Salsa-Bachata-Kizomba Festivals, Zouk congresses, for examples. To know about how to go about attending one, please get in touch with us.

Your pricing seems a little on the higher side. Why is that?

This is best explained by the popular adage 'You get what you pay for'! As we mentioned above, our syllabus is one of the best that is out there on offer in the entire country. We are confident that at the end of course, you'll feel satisfied with the value for your money (provided you too put in your part of work into it by practising & dancing regularly). Imagine being able to dance with almost any salsa dancer in the entire world and leaving a lasting impression! You can also check out some of our videos on the next page 'Gallery' to get a sampler of our quality & level of dance & instruction.
